Annexation becomes official: The annexation was formally approved by the Orange County Board of Supervisors on November 24, 2010, and the annexation process was completed on August 22, 2011, making Sunset Beach a part of of the city of Huntington Beach.

Continued development: Huntington Beach’s City Council later approved the Sunset Beach Specific Plan which outlines development regulations for the new community.
Service integration: Huntington Beach has integrated Sunset Beach’s services, including police, fire, and sanitation.
Preserving identity: Huntington Beach has worked to preserve Sunset Beach’s unique identity by keeping its name, post office, and the iconic greenbelt public spaces.
